Dollar General Literacy Foundation awards $10,000 grant in support of Even Start Family Literacy Program
Wayne-Metropolitan Community Action Agency is proud to announce the receipt of a $10,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation in support of the agency’s Even Start Family Literacy Program.
Funding will be used to offer new intermediate level computer training classes in the 2008-2009 program year. The grant will also cover the cost of supplies to enhance the Adult Education and English as a Second Language (ESL) curriculum through technology including digital cameras, photo editing software, and website creation software.
For more than six years, the agency’s Even Start Family Literacy program has been providing adult basic education (ABE), adult English as a second language (ESL), early childhood education and integrated family literacy services to low-income, low-literacy parents and their young children in the communities of Highland Park and Hamtramck. In 2006, Wayne Metro began offering basic computer classes and citizenship classes to Even Start students. These programs have been very popular and students are looking forward to the new opportunities afforded by the Dollar General Literacy Foundation.
