2005 Annual Meeting

Partner in Progress Awardee Sarnacki & Associates.

On Thursday, October 6th, Wayne-Metro hosted its Annual Meeting and awards luncheon at the Lovett Hall Ballroom located at the Henry Ford Museum. This year's event highlighted the enduring and remarkable achievements of the Great Society Programs. Established during the Johnson administration, the Great Society created the network of Community Action Programs more than four decades ago. The lasting impact of programs like Head Start, Medicaid, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which were fashioned by the Great Society, helped to shape American culture and continue to drive public policy still today.

Event key note speaker Colina Foundation President John Colina, was presented with an award for his ongoing support of Wayne-Metro's Youth and Family initiatives. In his address Mr. Colina spoke on the importance of collaborating and staying true to mission as key factors in a nonprofit's ability to survive and stay competitive in today's economic climate. He commended Wayne-Metro for its leadership and outreach efforts, and pledged his continued support. Mr. Colina was followed by the agency's annual program and fiscal reports, which detailed the plans and priorities for FY2006. The report emphasized the agency's commitment to maintaining funding for core services and a continuing effort to make permanent community investments through new construction.

Client of the Year award recipients Norman and Debra Kirk of Wayne, Belinda Thomason of River Rouge, Latresa Clay of Melvindale, and DaVonda Huff of Hamtramck were presented with awards. Their stories of success were told through a video presentation after which each spoke and gave words of thanks for the assistance and support they'd received. The stories, moving and inspiring, demonstrated the sentiment and level of trust shared between the agency's staff and those we serve. They also proved once again how Wayne-Metro and its collaborators have assembled a series of programs that are truly helping people and changing lives.
