Community Gardens


Young Gardeners.

Wayne-Metro's Community Gardening Program has coordinated the planting and harvesting of more than 157 gardens in 15 communities throughout our service area. These gardens planted and cared for by non-profit and civic organizations, schools, community , social and religious groups, have yielded an estimated 5,000 pounds of fresh produce that helped to feed countless people in need.

Wayne-Metro's Partnerships for Local Agricultural Networking Together (P.L.A.N.T.) provides fresh produce and promotes self-sufficiency and positive change toward good nutrition and healthy living. P.L.A.N.T. provides seeds, plants, gardening supplies, and technical assistance to community gardeners. Gardens range in size and type including container gardens, vertical gardens, and organic gardens. Seed and plant selections can suite ethnic preferences.
