More thank 500 people attended the 2006 Walk for Warmth at the Southland Mall in Taylor including our friends County Executive Robert Ficano, Sate Senator Raymond Basham, and Congressman John D. Dingell along with even honorary Chair Bill Spencer.

2006 marked the most successful Walk to date. The contributions of concerned businesses, community organizations and area residents brought the event revenue total to $45,000. Great news came from our friends at the Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW) and the Michigan Community Action Association (MCAAA) who both pledged to match a portion of the Walk proceeds.

Many thanks to Mrs. Dorris Bracy of Highland Park who raised an impressive $2,300.00. Coming in at a close second was Wayne-Metro Homeless Prevention Case Manager Denise Lake. Denise's payroll deduction contribution combined with collected pledges totaled more than $1,500.00.

New this year was the Regional Advisory Council Walk Challenge. The challenge encouraged the agency's five RACs to compete for the new title and the Cup of Champions. This year's winner was RAC IV, representing the communities of Taylor, Gibralter, Woodhaven, Grosse Ile, Flatrock, Riverview, Trenton and Brownstown Township raised more than $2,700.00. Other winners included Mom's Miracle Home for Best Team Apparel and Fifth Third Bank for Largest Team.

Special thanks to the Wyandotte Roosevelt High School Chamber Singers and the Open Door Puppets from Glenwood United Methodist Church in Wyandotte for providing the event entertainment.

Despite the hard economic times, our Walk sponsors rallied behind us. Many thanks to:
