Membership to the Out-Wayne County Homeless Services Coalition

The mission of the Out-Wayne County Homeless Services Coalition is to: eliminate homelessness in the Out Wayne County area. Toward this end, the Coalition identifies and illuminates economic and social issues at the local and state level that contribute to homelessness and substandard housing, and works to improve the capacity of all community partners to help homeless, imminently homeless and marginally housed persons locate, secure and sustain permanent housing.

Since its inception in 1993, the Coalition, an informal partnership between over thirty agencies, organizations and governmental units, has lead the effort to create a more unified front in combating the causes and conditions of homelessness in Out-Wayne County. Services include:

Emergency Food, Clothing and Shelter
Coalition members include food pantries, retail and resale shops, warming centers and shelters.

Health and Medical Services
The Coalition administers medical services at their respective sites and via mobile medical teams. Coalition members also provide access to health benefits and other options for health coverage to homeless clients.

Counseling and Case Management
The Coalition strives to meet the collective as well as the specific needs of the homeless population. Through identification, assessment, intervention, counseling and case management, the Coalition is better able to move clients along the continuum of care.

Employment and Training
Coalition partners work to enhance the likelihood that clients will gain employment through a variety of educational, work and skill enhancement programs.

Supportive Housing
Through the Coalition, permanent, independent and affordable housing is available to clients who have identified special needs, are homeless, or are in danger of losing housing.

Transitional Housing
The Coalition and its members also provide time-limited, subsidized rental housing with supportive services for homeless individuals and families who are homeless, but are working toward obtaining permanent housing.

The Coalition and its members meet on the first Tuesday of every month at 9:30 am. If you are interested in learning more about the Coalition or attending an upcoming meeting, please contact:
