13th Annual Walk for Warmth

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Southland Mall - Taylor, Michigan
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

We need your help to reach our goal of raising $50,000 to meet the heat and energy related needs in our community.  Wayne Metro invites you to come out and join us at the 13th Annual Walk for Warmth.

Wayne Metro is pleased to welcome back Bill Spencer from Channel 7 WXYZ-TV as our 2009 Honorary Event Chair. Bill is a recognized leader in providing support and assistance to families in crisis situations, including those unable to afford heat for their homes during harsh Michigan winters. Bill started the Freeze Fighters campaign to provide help to individuals struggling to afford the basic necessity of heat, while also promoting awareness of the tremendous number of people suffering in our communities.

Getting started

Walkers are asked for a $15 minimum donation.  All walkers are entered into a prize drawing and the first 500 participants receive an official 2008 Walk for Warmth t-shirt and a gift bag of goodies.  You must be present to win door prizes.

Sponsors - we have several options for sponsorship, please call Erin Evans at 734-246-2280 x123 for more information.

Advertisers - we are offering advertising space in our Walk for Warmth Program starting at $75.

Raising funds for the Walk for Warmth

As a Walk for Warmth participant, you can set a personal fundraising pledge goal and ask your family, friends, and colleagues to sponsor you.

You have two options for collecting pledges this year.

1.  You can collect pledges in the form of cash and checks using the paper pledge form. Download it here and start raising pledges today!

2.  You can create a free Online Fundraising Page using a simple template and send it to family and friends with a personal message to ask for support for the Walk for Warmth.  Through this method, your supporters can sponsor you through a credit card payment on a secure donation page.  Research shows that online fundraising pages help raise more money than traditional methods.  To set up your own personal fundraising page, go to www.firstgiving.com/waynemetro and click the Get Started button.  It only takes a few minutes.

Walk Teams

You can also form a Walk team.  Be a team captain - ask your friends and family to join your efforts and have fun! Come up with a catchy team name, wear matching outfits to the event, be creative!  There are special prizes for Walk teams including Highest Team Total, Biggest Team of Walkers, Best Team Name and Mo st Team Spirit. Teams can also connect their online fundraising pages at www.firstgiving.com/waynemetro. Teams use a special registration form for collecting cash and check donations.

Wayne Metro expects to see a tremendous increase in demand for services this winter, so we need your help more than ever!
